Description

HS2 proposes to engage the services of a supplier who can offer a Cloud Based Life Cycle Assessment solution and is inviting expressions of interest.

HS2's objective is to put in place a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method for assessing the potential environmental aspects and potential aspects associated with the programme by:
•Utilising an inventory of relevant inputs and outputs,
•Evaluating the potential environmental impacts associated with those inputs and outputs,
•Interpreting the results of the inventory and impact phases in relation to the objectives of the study.
An LCA system is required as a tool to assess the environmental impacts of HS2's infrastructure products throughout its life cycle; from the extraction of raw materials through to processing, transport, use and disposal.
There are four linked functions that we are keen to use the tool to deliver:
•Goal definition and scoping: identifying the LCA's purpose and the expected products of the study,
•Life-cycle inventory: quantifying the energy and raw material inputs and environmental releases associated with each stage of production;
•Impact analysis: assessing the impacts on the environment associated with energy and raw material inputs and environmental releases quantified by the inventory;
•Improvement analysis: evaluating opportunities to reduce energy, material inputs, or environmental impacts at each stage of the product life-cycle.
The key objectives of the project are to source a system that can:
•Calculate the environmental impacts of HS2 using Lifecycle Assessment.
•Allow for data to be organised into a logical hierarchy for example, route-wide or asset, with further classification and categorisations and for results to be aggregated at different levels within this hierarchy.
•Utilise LCI data which is representative of average UK construction and consistent with the BS EN 15804 requirements.
•Calculate a range of LCI indicators as defined in the BS EN 15804 standard and required by BREEAM.
•Analyse variations of a model to enable optioneering and allow the user to apply adjustments and analyse the results at any level within the model hierarchy.
•Analyse trends over defined periods using check-pointed data in a repository at various level in the model hierarchy.
•Produce ad-hoc reports compatible with the BS EN 15804 life cycle stages.
•Be an intuitive and user friendly system.
•Be modified and grown in the future without requiring extensive re-configuration or development.

Expressions of interest should be emailed to the HS2 IT Procurement Manager, Stephen Mann, email: Stephen.mann@hs2.org.uk
