Brief Description of Requirement
The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) is a world-class research organisation focusing on land and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere.
Uniquely, CEH integrates UK-wide observation systems and curiosity driven research, from the smallest scale of genetic diversity to large-scale, whole-Earth systems. CEH works across disciplines and facilitates academic, public, private and voluntary sector partnerships. CEH's extensive, long-term monitoring, analysis and modelling deliver UK and global environmental data, providing early warnings of change and management solutions for our land and freshwaters.
CEH requires two cavity ring-down (CRDS) analysers and each instrument should measure carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ammonia simultaneously. The analysers need to be field-deployable in a mobile laboratory located in a horsebox. The analysers will also be used in traditional laboratories or moved around in fields using small trolleys.
CRDS analysers use a single-frequency laser diode and two high reflectivity mirrors to measure the small gas-phase molecules at the near-infrared absorption level of the spectrum. The concentration of gases within any species can be determined by measuring the strength of absorption. Because of the mirrors, a CRDS analyser is able to measure at parts per billion over several kilometres as the laser 'bounces' between the mirrors thousands of times. CRDS analysers also do not require a fluorophore to be added to excite light within organisms.

This contract will be awarded based on the evaluation criteria set out in the ITQ document.
