Description
Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) is a large public-sector organisation responsible for a range of services. For information on the Council's structure and services visit www.oxfordshire..gov.uk
One of these services is the provision of different types of transport for a range of service users. These include:
• Home to school transport (Special Educational Needs and mainstream)
• Adult social care transport (older people, learning disabilities and mental health)
• Childrens social care transport
• Any other OCC procured transport services
These journeys are carried out by transport suppliers and OCC's internal fleet all of which are commissioned by OCC. There are approximately 200 service suppliers who employ approximately circa 2000 drivers and passenger assistants.
OCC are part of a Joint Operational Framework (JOF) with Oxford City Council, Cherwell District Council, West Oxfordshire District Council, South Oxfordshire District Council, and the Vale of White Horse District Council. Part of the JOF dictates that all licensed drivers, OCC drivers and passenger assistants across the county will undertake the same safeguarding and disability awareness training as part of a joined-up approach. OCC will be facilitating this course to fill the requirements of the JOF.
Our requirement
OCC recognises that drivers and escorts do an exceptional job in transporting its service users, However, due to the increasingly complex and diverse nature of the needs of service users, a need had been identified for a bespoke transport safeguarding and disability awareness course that can be created to all drivers and passenger assistants. Drivers and passenger assistants must undergo this training as a part of their renewal for taxi licences and OCC badges for procured routes.
Training will be required for approximately 1500 drivers and passenger assistants over the space of three years.
Content
Safeguard training
OCC has created a safeguarding training course that will be delivered by the supplier. The content of the course includes:
• Generalist Safeguarding Training
• Training to meet the needs of specific service users
