Description

Ruislip Lido Public Toilets Refurbishment
Ruislip Lido is a public park and lake, very popular place to visit with Hillingdon Residents, and busy all year round, but especially in summer. The Lido is also a place of education with many visits from schools, and specialist groups with disabilities. The water and surrounding decidious forest is a nature reserve and home to many protected species, for example badgers and bats.

The toilets and adjacent changing rooms are close to the Lido beach and play area, the modular buildings that are approximately 10 years old. The plywood floors of the modular units have perished, because in excluding animals from under the modular units, this work prevented good air circulation, the floors need to be replaced. In addition, the toilets have been well used and require a refurbishment. The popularity of the site at peak periods requires a second set of female toilets to be constructed in the existing changing rooms building and the provision of better disabled toilets.

The drainage needs to be partly renewed, and because of capacity issues storage and pumping of sewage is required, as well as sand and grease traps to prevent drains blocking in the future. Some external work to provide beach showers and improve access is required.
Vehicular access and safety is a key issue across the site; for example, moving construction traffic from the Lido entrance gate to the beach toilets is difficult and sometimes impossible at peak periods when the park is thriving with children.
