Description

The Council provides an in house Dog Warden Service which covers the whole of the Bradford District. The Council has a duty to seize and detain stray dogs found within its area. This duty is overseen by the Dog Warden Service for the Council. Through this Service the Council discharges its duty relating to kennelling stray dogs to a third party contractor.

The Dog Warden Service seizes and detains any dogs that are roaming unaccompanied, as well as dogs that are confined for collection. The dogs are delivered to the Provider's kennels where they are held until either reclaimed by the owners, new owners found, or as a last resort other wise disposed of.

The Council has a duty under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (as amended) to kennel stray dogs for a minimum of seven clear days.

Whilst the dog is in the kennel the Council will make every effort to either reunite the dog and owner or to rehome the dog if the owner cannot be found or will not have the dog back.

The Provider will be required to undertake these duties, liaise with owners regarding lost dogs and collect any monies from owners reclaiming their dog. The Provider will be expected to deal with any members of the public who may not be the owners or wanting to adopt the dog but have an interest in dog welfare, and deal with any enquiries from persons who have a vested interest in the dog's welfare.
