Description
The Catapult requires a suitably experienced and capable supplier to design, build and install a \"Technology Totem\", the first totem is to be installed in Birmingham and the second in London.
The Technology Totem is a mobile lab, it will contain a selection of sensing hardware, an e-ink screen and facilities to harness renewable energy. The Catapult wishes to measure the environment and attempt to engage the public via dynamic on-screen content, so we need a CMS as well as wireless connectivity.
The ambition for the Technology Totem would be for it be to operate at low rate of power consumption but we expect to replace a battery unit at regular intervals. All the cavities within the Technology Totem will also accessed on a regular basis to install and test different sensors, so attention needs to be paid to weather proofing and security.
It will be capable of sensing and engaging with the public with a view to influencing behaviour for the benefit of a neighbourhood.
Birmingham's Southside Business Improvement district is working with the Catapult and Atkins to produce a pop up park (a parklet) in 2 car parking spaces.
The project includes building a parklet, monitoring foot fall and dwell time and how technology can be used to improve business. Finally, we have partnered with Staffordshire University to monitor and analyse footfall and dwell time and will be installing technology to validate the impact of the interventions. This parklet will be in place for 12 months with installation expected at the end of June 2017.
The successful supplier will:
• Design a Technology Totem based on our prototype designs and direction.
• Solve challenges of supporting totem in modular structure.
• Integrate 3rd party hardware, e-ink screen, batteries, camera and other environment sensors. To be supplied by the Catapult.
• Fabricate x 2 Tech-totems and test integration for appropriate compliance.
• Deliver and install x 1 Tech-totem in Birmingham parklet, deliver the other to the Catapult at One Sekforde Street, EC1R OBE.
• Engage with the Catapult and its partners as we evaluate testing and project success.
• Ongoing support for the lifetime of the project, 12 months from delivery.
The Catapult will own the IP for the Technical Totem.
