Description

Over the last year the Agency has prioritised publishing open data in order to become data driven. There are a number of opportunities to follow this up but in order to do so we need people to use the data to achieve real-world outcomes, in terms of generating actionable insights that would enable the Agency to fulfil its strategic objectives. The FSA's strategic plan can be found here: https://www.food.gov.uk/sites/default/files/FSA strategy document 2015-2020_April 2015_interactive (2).pdf
This project therefore provides funding for a series of case studies to demonstrate the value and potential applications of FSA data. In particular, we seek projects that will help us to develop our strategic focus, in terms of identifying, utilising and prioritising our most high-impact datasets.
Tenders are invited from a range of parties - including Universities, SMEs and start-ups - to engage with our open data through a series of projects. We have a programme of funding for this and are looking to fund between 7 and 14 pilot projects, with a total budget of £80,000.
The FSA is looking for project proposals that maximise the innovative use of our datasets. The scope has therefore been left open in order to maximise the possibility of innovation, whether in terms of developing new technologies, services and approaches, or creating new ways of utilising those which already exist. This could involve:
 Developing new Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
 Establishing new reference data and data standards
 Utilising and combining datasets in innovative ways
