Description

The Authority is looking to appoint up to a maximum of two (2) suppliers to carry out the collection of egg and milk samples under the Veterinary Medicines Directorate's National Residues Control Plan.The Contract will cover the whole of GB and include two (2) Lots: Lot 1 Milk sampling & Lot 2 : Egg sampling. Tenderers may bid for one or more lots.

VMD is responsible for authorising the manufacture, distribution and use of veterinary medicines in the UK. It also has responsibility for post-authorisation surveillance, which includes investigating suspected adverse reactions to veterinary medicines and operating a surveillance programme for residues of veterinary medicines and other substances. The VMD also advises Government Ministers on veterinary medicines policy and making and enforcing UK legislation in this respect.

As part of the testing for residues of veterinary medicines and illegal substances in animals and animal products, VMD is responsible for the management and operation of the National Residues Control Plan (NRCP) in GB. This requirement is in place as part of the United Kingdom's fulfilment of its obligations under Council Directive 96/23/EC.

The NRCP requires the collection of a specified number of assayable samples of hen eggs; quail eggs; cow milk; sheep, and goat milk, from GB farms for analysis of residues of veterinary medicines and other substances. Contractors may be required to make a Welsh language option available when collecting samples in Wales.
