Description

BEIS is providing up to £4 million funding for the Advanced Modular Reactor (AMR) Knowledge Capture Project, as a complementary project to the AMR Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D) programme.

The project seeks to facilitate knowledge capture and sharing to reduce the time, risk, and cost of AMR RD&D programme delivery, and provide UK organisations with valuable knowledge to leverage against international funding.

There is a large amount of historic UK funded R&D and lessons learned on Advanced Nuclear Technologies (ANT), including previous demonstrator reactors in the UK, from which the nuclear sector can learn.

The UK also has unique experience in designing, licensing, fuelling, operating, planning for decommissioning, and regulating a fleet of gas-cooled, graphite-moderated reactors which has some application to HTGR, the technology which is the focus of the AMR RD&D programme.

The Knowledge Capture project is structured into two phases. During Phase 1 relevant records, data, materials, and expertise will be identified. Phase 2 will focus on delivery, with the knowledge capture activities identified in Phase 1 being undertaken.
