Description

The aim of T1233 is to establish appropriate air quality targets for the rail industry, by defining the level of pollutant concentrations to be achieved at various locations across the network by a specific time. This will be achieved through the following tasks:
1.Collate existing knowledge of pollutant concentrations and exposure in indoor and outdoor settings at various locations within the rail network and quantify the amount of exposure at these locations.
2.Review the existing guidance and standards around air quality that may be applied to rail.
3.Review existing primary research on what the health effects of pollutant concentration are in rail.
4.Understand how air quality may naturally change over time with and without any mitigating measures.
5.Based on the above, establish an agreed methodology and set suitable targets for the respective locations across the rail network to improve air quality and an appropriate timeline against which the targets can be achieved.
