Description

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council aims to be a place where everyone can access good quality, healthy, affordable food, where everyone can enjoy a healthy diet and where the food in the borough is produced and sourced locally and responsibly, this in turn supports the local economy and helps sustain the environment.
With the emerging cost of living crisis, more people have found their incomes do not cover the cost of essentials like heating and food, and with the cost of food also increasing this has compounded the problem, resulting in a substantial rise in the use of food banks.
The aim of the Food Club Service is to provide Food Boxes of various sizes to suit an individual, small family or large family for up to 1 weeks food at approximately 20 percent of the price the equivalent would cost in a Supermarket whilst still delivering a healthy, culturally appropriate, selection of foods. The food boxes will be able to be ordered via a variety of sources, face to face, telephone, internet etc. and paid for in cash or by card.
The boxes will also be delivered to a number of hubs across the borough and can be ordered in advance via the community centres in these locations.
The service will also engage with the local community and its service users to identify, signpost and refer to appropriate services that may help and support them.
