Description

The Maudsley Model of Anorexia Therapy for Adults (MANTRA) is a cognitive-interpersonal treatment for adults with anorexia nervosa which includes both intra- and interpersonal maintaining factors, and strategies to address these.

The course is modularised with a clear hierarchy of procedures, tailored to the need of the individual.

MANTRA is delivered as a stand-alone treatment, in a series of individual weekly sessions depending on illness severity, incorporating monthly follow-up meetings.

Treatment may involve family members as appropriate to the severity of the illness, developmental stage and treatment motivation of the patient.

MANTRA has a solid evidence base and is one of three potential NICE-recommended therapies to be used as first line treatment for anorexia nervosa.

Trainees will need to be able to use and report on routine patient reported outcome measures.

MANTRA training is a post-qualification training aimed at qualified practitioners with a core mental health profession (such as psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, mental health nurses, allied health professionals and social workers) working in specialist adult or all-age eating disorder services who have at least two year's experience of working with eating disorders.

Recruitment for the course will be aimed at clinicians who can already evidence core competences for work with individuals with eating disorders, general therapeutic competences and assessment and formulation competences specified in the Roth and Pilling framework.

Training providers will need to work in close liaison with the service providers to ensure integrated plans for supervision and support.
