Description

CoSTAR LiveLAB is a cutting-edge research and development hub, led by the University of York and based at Production Park in West Yorkshire. It focuses on revolutionising live performance by creating and applying convergent technologies across stage, screen, and XR environments. LiveLAB provides state-of-the-art facilities for developing new tools in areas such as volumetric capture, spatial audio, motion tracking, and extended reality (XR), enabling groundbreaking advancements in live performance capture and production. By bringing together leading academics, industry partners, and creatives, LiveLAB fosters innovation and collaboration, supporting the UK's creative industries and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in live, hybrid, and remote performances.

As part of the LiveLAB infrastructure, there will be a main performance area within the facility with a configurable stage and audience area. A supporting immersive audio system is required to create immersive audio experiences, ranging from fully virtual acoustic environments to sound reinforcement for live performances where audio objects are panned around the audience. The audio system will predominantly be flown from the LiveLAB trussing, and will incorporate 32 channels of sound reinforcement, which includes LFE channels and on-stage monitoring.
