Description

Marketing Birmingham is the area's strategic marketing partnership, which focuses on three business areas (i) investment, (ii) the visitor economy and (iii) strategic marketing.

The company is funded by the public and private sectors, and acts as an economic development and promotions agency undertaking long term Service Level Agreement contracts. Example clients include: Birmingham City Council; the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF); Finance Birmingham and Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership.

This project is co-funded by the VisitEngland / VisitBritain Discover England Fund, run by a steering group comprising partners from the Midlands Engine. Stakeholders include the Canal & River Trust (CRT), Shakespeare's England, LeicesterShire Promotions, Visit Lichfield, Drifters - a consortium of private narrowboat hire operators and information and services provides.

This project aims to raise the profile of the waterways to international visitors, targeted at the Swedish, Dutch and German markets comprising empty nesters and young professionals, based on the beautiful and historic canal network of the Warwickshire Ring and Stratford-upon-Avon Canal.

This project is in a pilot phase, to test the concept with overseas visitors. In order to do that, we will need to offer them promotional information to whet their appetite, opportunity to plan their holiday and the ability to book. We also want to provide them with map-based information on the move - a digital guide, app or interactive pdf - bearing in mind patchy connectivity along the waterways - and communicate on the move.
