Description

The Council is looking for an organisation to lead a community research project in Ward End, that would collect local data and mobilise local residents around several large infrastructure projects planned for Ward End (Cole Valley Improvement and the Dolphin Centre Phase II) and a raft of soft projects looking to decrease local unemployment in East Birmingham and boost local entrepreneurship. The overall aim of this contract is for the local communities to be better connected to the local opportunities created and enabled by the East Birmingham Inclusive Growth Programme.

There is an requirement for the successful supplier to provide expertise in delivering Community Research training, mentoring and co-designing research projects. Demonstrable track record in supporting community-based organisations to contribute to the local wealth building agenda would be beneficial. Experience of delivering projects with Birmingham communities is essential. Local knowledge of East Birmingham and existing demonstrable links to the local communities are essential for the project to be delivered in the time scales.

The key deliverables include;
1. A group of at least three local community researchers (or pairs of community researchers) set up/convened - and their availability confirmed to do the work over the summer months.
2. Community Researchers trained in basic research methods, i.e. interview techniques, recording interviews and GDPR, analysing responses and drawing conclusions from research findings, presenting research findings to wider audience (academic and non-academic);
3. Mentoring from an academic staff secured for the whole process from co-designing research projects to presenting the outcomes to a wider group of stakeholders;
4. Contributing to the organisation of one larger event in the park in the summer months together with the local organisations (cost of organising the event will be met by Birmingham City Council - separate budget);
5. Participation in the project transnational event (21 September 2022) - showcase Birmingham work to international partners.
6. Collaboration with a filmmaker producing a film documenting the process and the results including interviews with members of communities.
The contract will be awarded to one organisation and it should be noted that one organisation will be the lead bidder and the contracting entity.

This contract is funded by the URBACT III Programme and the European Regional Development Fund as part of the project: USE-IT Transfer Network.

This contract will be for a period of 2 months commencing September 2022 until 9 November 2022.
