Description

This requirement is for the production of a high power solid-state electrical switch prototype.

STFC would like to investigate the possibility of replacing their existing high power switches with a solid-state device. The full power device will require a hold-off voltage in the region of 60kV, conduction current of 8kA, 50Hz repetition rate and a switch on time less than 100ns.

It is expected that the development of a prototype switch will require research and development and that the stated performance will be theoretical, based on current knowledge.

The design of the prototype device will aim to have a hold-off voltage of 10kV, conduction current of 1kA, 50Hz repetition rate and a switch on time less than 100ns. A report will be produced that describes how the technology used in the prototype device can be scaled to provide the requirements of a full power device
