Description

Cambridgeshire County Council is undertaking a Soft Market Test (SMT) to gauge interest in a potential contract for the provision of a Long Acting Reversible Contraception Training Programme. Although the local Integrated Sexual Health Services provides clinical LARC training there is a need to augment training opportunities for the providing LARCs. Primary care is a substantial provider of LARCs in Cambridgeshire especially in the rural areas. However many GPs who have provided LARCS are retiring. In addition five years ago a number of clinicians received local Letters of Competence that enabled them to provide LARCS. These are now expiring and are no longer available. Consequently there will be a shortage of providers and there is an increasingly urgent need to provide additional training opportunities if demand can be met and the consequences of decreased access to contraception avoided.
