Description

To identify and review the varying ways that healthy weight advice and support is commissioned and provided to families with children aged 0-5 in a selection of local areas in England , looking in the round at how services identify and support those most in need.
The case study research is required to gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the different ways that services are organised at the local authority level to provide healthy weight support to families with children aged 0-5 and to provide a starting point for considerations on how services can be improved over time.
The research should look at the way that services are commissioned /provided in different local areas, the strengths and weaknesses of these forms of provision and how they sit within wider systems of support for families.
The perspectives and experiences of front-line staff should also be captured to enhance understanding of the way that services meet the needs of families, identifying any barriers or facilitators they experience in their roles, their relationships within the wider health system and their perspectives on training and support needs.
The research should seek to incorporate user perspectives in ways that are feasible given the time constraints, appropriate to each case study and in line with the situation arising at the time in relation to Covid-19. This might include visiting services, discussions or written consultation with community groups and voluntary organisations or other means that are feasible within the budget and timescale.
