Description
Harbour Wall D is a 76 metre stretch of steel sheet piling harbour quay wall at the eastern end of Custom House Quay, Weymouth. The approximate centre point of the Wall D is 368268, 78824 (national grid reference). The works are in close proximity to grade 2* listed buildings (Devonshire Buildings) which are hotels and B&B's, and the Weymouth Pavilion theatre. Due to their close proximity, there will be a requirement for surveying and monitoring of the buildings by a third party. Contractors familiar with these arrangements and that can offer good communication and liaison with stakeholders will be most suited to this project.
The works comprise the construction of 76 metres of steel sheet pile quay wall driven into the harbour bed (to approximately -12 mCD) as close as practical to the face of the existing piles (approximately 0.5m offset). The void between existing and new will be filled with reinforced concrete and the new sheet piling will be tied back to the sound sections of the existing tie bars so that the strengthened wall will be supported by the existing anchor beams. The structure will be topped with a capping beam. These structural elements will combine the existing and new sheet piling and create a strengthened and supported harbour quay wall.
The Contractor must be competent in isolating underground services for the construction period and reinstating services on operation and completion.
A brick and concrete kiosk building (approximately 60m² and 3m tall) on the quayside will be demolished and replaced by a much smaller structure for electrical switchgear, built into the walls retaining the elevated section of landing stage.
The works includes provision of quay safety equipment and mooring bollards as appropriate, the removal of four flights of steel ferry steps and replacement with two new flights of reinforced concrete steps and the reinstatement of quayside furniture.
The quayside, working areas and contractor's compound will be made good on completion, using like-for-like materials to the existing.
The form of contract will be ECC Option C target contract. The contract is programmed to commence in January 2019. The duration of the contract is expected to be up to 20 weeks (lead in time dependant) including approximately 12 weeks of site works.
