Description

- An outline of the business strategy and the role of this project in it;
Ensuring LSBU's future sustainability by delivering efficient and responsive services to students, staff and external stakeholders within a robust governance framework, and exemplify a value for money approach to resource deployment. This project will enhance the current stakeholder payment experience and improve staff and resource efficiencies.

- History relevant to the project;
London South Bank University has been with WPM Education as the only Payment Gateway and Online Store provider for several years. Due to recent changes in our customer payment behaviour, we have closed our front facing service cash office and sign-posted all our students to pay online wherever possible. Some sites still accept cash for international customers who may not have a bank account or prefer not to pay online, others for external customers who still prefer to pay in cash.

Although LSBU use WPM as our online store provider, our internal stakeholders' requirements indicate a need for a more robust, intuitive and user-friendly online shopping cart experience. Ideally an experience with a similar look, feel and functionality as a mix between Eventbrite event management and The Pay360 eShop from Capita.

LSBU currently use Elavon for our acquiring and merchant services and Global Payments as our Payment Service Provider. However, we would prefer to have one supplier for all online and offline payment needs, and at the same time ensure improved PCI compliance status, have enhanced reporting features, and improved PDQ terminals POS functionality and P2P encryption.

With a year-on-year increase in recruiting international students, LSBU requires a payment solution that would cater to payment preferences unique or most popular to every country. The majority of international students tend to pay by CHAPS or through banks who may use intermediary banks to remit the payment, which can cause problems with crucial payment details for prompt reconciliations getting lost in translation. Therefore a payment solution is sought from a reputable and well-known brand that would instil confidence in our customers to use the proposed payment solution, improve the reconciliation process, and speed up student registrations.
