Description

Lancaster University intends to appoint a Principal Contractor for its new Lecture Theatre project, to provide a 400 seat lecture theatre located west of John Creed Avenue and east of the University Spine. The intention is to locate the theatre in the central space framed by the FASS and chemistry buildings. The space will connect with the Spine and provide high quality landscaped areas surrounding the new theatre building, allowing users to spill out and interact with the external environment. The new building will link with the existing FASS building, therefore requiring minor demolition, remodelling and refurbishment. The University seeks to appoint a Contractor for these works to fulfil both Principal Contractor and Principal Designer responsibilities under the CDM Regulations 2015. It is anticipated that mobilisation (est. 4 weeks) on site will commence 07.10.19 with completion required by 07.08.20.
Intended tender method: Single Stage Design & Build. Fixed lump sum to be invited under Closed Tender on the basis of RIBA Stage 4 design information, utilising the JCT D&B 2016 form of contract with Lancaster University's Special Conditions. The architect (and current Principal Designer) and civil and structural appointments will be mandatory novations, with the mechanical and electrical appointment being retained client side. The University will publish documents 01.04.19 (target) inviting formal Expressions Of Interest (EOI) in the project before running a Closed Tender in July/August 2019 (target). The EOI documentation will be published on In-Tend (details below) and will include RIBA Stage 2 and programme information, and a copy of the University's Special Conditions.
