Description
From March to September 2023 Historic England is touring an outdoor photography exhibition that celebrates the high street and encourages people to visit them called Picturing High Streets (PHS). Picturing High Streets is a landmark national photography commission that sees Historic England working with Photoworks and an England-wide group of photography agencies with GRAIN Projects, Impressions Gallery, Open Eye Gallery, PARC (Photography and the Archive Research Centre), Photofusion, QUAD/FORMAT, Redeye, ReFramed and The Photographers' Gallery. The yearlong call out via https://www.instagram.com/PicturingHighStreets/ asks people to send in photographs responding to a fortnightly challenge.
Sixty photographs submitted by the public will feature in the exhibition from March to September 2023. The exhibition consists of various formats comprising exhibition panels, window vinyls, projections, bus stops and billboards courtesy of Clear Channel advertising space. We are touring to Bradford, Bristol, Derby, Hastings, London, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Prescot, Stoke and Walsall.
Picturing High Strets is part of the High Street Cultural Programme, a four-year programme of cultural activity across England concluding in 2024. Historic England is leading the High Street Cultural Programme in partnership with National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Arts Council England as part of the High Streets Heritage Action Zones initiative funded by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
