Description

This is a project to convert a Non-Conformist Chapel at Fairmile Cemetery (RG9 6AA) into a Columbarium.

Henley on Thames Town Council is offering a unique opportunity to convert the inside of its Victorian Chapel at the Fairmile Cemetery into a Columbarium for the above ground burial of ashes. This will be the first such facility to be offered in the area, and will complement the burial services already offered at the Fairmile Cemetery, whilst providing an appropriate long term viable use for this lovely Grade II listed building which is one part of a pair of Grade II Listed Chapels forming the centre piece of the Victorian cemetery landscape which remains largely unaltered since its conception.

The internal decoration of the Chapel would consist of around 400 timber niches as indicated in the attached details.

Other works required include extending utilities to the building from nearby supplies (water/electricity) and an internet line to allow for a door control system. There will also be minor plasterwork and tiled flooring repairs as indicated in the Schedule of Works.

Pre-planning advice has indicated that planning permission will not be required for the internal conversion, and listed building consent has been applied for with a Heritage Appraisal and Impact Assessment having been submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council.

Works would commence in early 2019 pending grant funding from the Chiltern Leader Programme for Rural Development which will be advised by the end of 2018.

Please submit your tender to Liz Jones (Responsible Financial Officer) as indicated on the Form of Tender
