Description

Refurbishment and Upgrade of Sumburgh Head Lighthouse

The main items of project work are as listed below:-

DGPS Removal.
Sumburgh Head is one of the Northern Lighthouse Boards (NLB), Dynamic Global Positioning System (DGPS) stations. This system has now been discontinued and therefore all items and infrastructure relating to DGPS must be taken down/demolished and removed from site. This includes :

•2no. 18m High LTF Towers, as shown on archive drawing 080115(C)
•Concrete bases for each of the towers.
•GRP Feeder house and concrete base.
•Timber stockade fence around feeder house.
•Aluminium flagpole arrangement forming farady cage at feeder house - see Drg C-SUM-19
•Lister Engine housed in existing control room.
•External Fuel Tank

All the above items can be viewed during the proposed contactors site visit.

Installation on new bearing ring for Optic Lantern.
The current First Order Fresnel Lens is rotated on a float and mercury bath. With the health hazards relating to mercury vapour, this system is to be replaced by a mechanical, motor driven bearing ring.

The manufacture and installation of this system, including the mercury removal, is being carried out by Amon Electronics, based in Northern Ireland. The successful tenderer for this project shall take on Amon Electronic as a nominated sub-contractor and they will be expected to coordinate and supervise the installation work, keeping open a direct line of communication throughout.

Site Visit
A site visit is planned for 31 July 2023. Date to be confirmed. This is a mandatory requirement and any supplier not attending the site visit will be excluded from this tender exercise. All Tenders should submit a request to attend via the tenderbox message centre to confirm attendance and names of representatives attending site.
