Description

Goldsmiths, University of London would like to invite suppliers to bid for the main contract for building works at the grade II listed Laurie Grove Baths.

The objective of the project is to create a new art gallery by remodelling parts of Laurie Grove Baths that formed originally the service area of the building and are currently either disused, or used for office and studio space. This includes refurbishing two former water-storage tanks at the top of the building to form an external terrace and unheated gallery space, as well as breaking out of a central part of the ground floor to form a double height gallery space. In addition the project will involve the building of two new gallery spaces requiring substantive adaptation of the existing building to accommodate junctions with and the structural loads of these new elements. The attention to detail is essential in this very sensitive environment.

Any necessary repairs, overhaul and renewal of roofs, slate, felt, asphalt, brickwork parapets and led-work associated with the building of the gallery, will form part of the contracted works.

The project will be carried out under very tight time and work restrictions. While the whole time line for the project is from May 2016 until March 2017, adjacent areas will still be occupied by students and staff. Access to areas in the vicinity of the proposed site will be shared with the users of the building and surrounded buildings for the whole duration of the works.
