Description

- This project will develop and trial the application of a method to Urban Habitat and Naturalness Mapping that over time will generate new content for the database that may form part of future iterations.
- The England Green Infrastructure Database is intended to provide a national baseline evidence resource on Green Infrastructure in England and to support the emerging National Framework of Green Infrastructure Standards.
- Local authorities and others may use the content of the database for planning, monitoring and evaluating the provision of GI including creating a baseline of GI provision. In particular, the maps and analyses are intended to inform the development of local plans and policies, GI strategies, and to engage stakeholders, including developers and communities, to help identify priorities for GI enhancement and creation.
- The purpose of this work will be to establish a practical method to Urban Habitat and Naturalness mapping using areas of urban England. The mapping of Urban Habitats will use Earth Observation data and be applied in 3 "pilot" mapping locations. The pilot locations will be Plymouth, Manchester City (District only, NOT Greater Manchester) and Cambridge.
- The results of the pilot mapping will be used to develop a longer term programme of developing Urban Habitat Maps for all of Urban England.
- These first areas will be pilots for developing a mapping approach that will be capable of being scaled up for application across all of urban England over time.
