Description

This service specification relates to the provision of a community non-consultant led minimally invasive vasectomy (MIV) service for NHS Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group.

Local defined outcomes

- Reduction of unnecessary referrals into secondary care, resulting in an improved conversion rate and potential efficiency savings in line with the NHS Wakefield CCG's Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) aims.
- Improved patient experience due to shorter waiting times overall and care closer to home as the service is available across a number of sites.
- Patients reporting a good level of satisfaction with the service including comfort scores.
- Patients seen and treated within the NHS Constitution timescales i.e. within 18 weeks of referral.

Aims and objectives of service

The aim of the service is to provide a high quality and safe, minimally invasive vasectomy (MIV) under local anesthetic.

The objectives of the service are to:
- Provide high quality, cost effective, local community vasectomy services for Wakefield CCG and it's patients.
- Provide services that comply with accepted best practice in line with national and local guidance, relevant accreditations processes, relevant guidelines in clinical practice and robust governance arrangements.
- Provide a complete holistic service user focussed care package including pre and post-operative care, information, advice and counselling.
- Ensure consistent and continuous care between health professionals, effective and efficient communication.
- Improve access and convenience for service users.
