Description

'Fair Field ' is the public space, heart of the Fair Field Masterplan area. It sits between Croydon College andthe Fairfield Halls and is only moments away from East Croydon Station, the civic heart of Croydon aroundthe Town Hall and Queens Gardens, Croydon's Old Town and the West Croydon Retail Centre. It is part of animportant sequence of existing and future public spaces that form an east-west arc from East Croydon to OldTown via Queens Gardens, Mid Croydon, Surrey Street and Exchange Square.
Croydon Council is seeking consultancy services of a world class professional design team in relation to thepublic realm transformation of Fair Field (also referred to as College Green and Fair Field Gardens).
The Contractor is required to:-
- Create a multi-functional open space (combination of hard and soft landscape) between Fairfield halls andCroydon College capable of accommodating events, performances and activities, as well as allowing forrelaxation (see Volume 3 - Design Brief for the full scope).
- Provide a hard central gathering space.
- Provide informal amenity space for adjacent residential development and the wider Croydon residentialpopulation including informal play.
- Create a space that will enthuse and excite, integrating water feature(s) and public art (multi-disciplinary).
- Include the infrastructure required to enable a wide range of future events and activities (power, water, lighting etc.).- Provide a high quality pedestrian route linking the new Fair Field and associated public realm and EastCroydon Station via College Road and George Street.
- Connect to a new level pedestrian route to College Road and East Croydon station and beyond beingdelivered in the north west corner of the masterplan area by summer 2019
- Integrate successfully with surrounding and nearby public space projects; in particular the redevelopment ofQueens Gardens, improvements to Park Lane and the Park Lane gyratory and the development of a new TownHall Square on Katherine Street.Without being bound by it, explore possibilities of integrating elements from the interim improvements includingre-using the new slab level and associated utilities where appropriate.
- Integrate key cycle route from College Road to Barclay road
- Celebrate the history of this important site including links to the post war sister city of Arnhem, Netherlands
- Contractors shall ensure that the requirements from this Specification document (Volume 4) are read inconjunction with the Volume 3 Design Brief and form part of the Contract
