Description

*** THIS IS NOT A CALL FOR COMPETITION ***

This contract has been awarded against CR150025 BIS Research & Evaluation Framework, LOT 5.

The Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge (SSPP) will be funding large Demonstrator Projects (consisting of collaborations of industrial partners proposing £30-40m capital construction projects) to meet the objectives of the Challenge to resolve the issue of plastic packaging waste (see below Section 4 background). During the selection process of these Demonstrator projects an important consideration will be the potential environmental impact of the project if it is successful and the innovation is adopted at scale, namely that it is lower than the current state-of-the-art.
Innovate UK (IUK) is proposing to engage an external contractor(s) to conduct / assist in conducting this evaluation.
The implication for IUK in implementing this external contracting is to make available skill sets (environmental impact assessment and life cycle analysis) not available internally and to provide a degree of external and independent assessment.
This requirement is not related to any other purchasing requirement at this stage.

Aims & Objectives

The aim of the tender process is to access skill sets (environmental impact assessment and life cycle analysis) not available internally and to provide a degree of external and independent assessment. These skill sets required will be to evaluate projects to assess the:
• Accuracy and validity of environmental impact data supplied by projects during the application phase
• Overall Environmental impact of the project if successfully implemented at scale compared to the current state-of-the-art
• Any additional environmental impacts (and risks) not identified by the project
