Description

A video camera lander system is required to assess fish species presence, abundance and biomass. The system needs to record and store continuous high definition (HD) video for at least 48 hours, which will allow fish to be identified to species level. The system needs to be depth rated to 300m and record during day and night (diel), requiring suitable camera specifications and lighting to perform in low light conditions. Preferably this would be without the use of white light, which can attract or repel species, but there can be flexibility. Stereo (two) cameras are required on the lander for estimation of body lengths, and subsequent use in biomass calculations. Each cameras field of view should be at least 70 degrees, and the pair need to be calibrated to allow length estimates. The lander may be deployed from vessels ranging in size from small RIBs to large research vessels. As such the deployment frame should to be compact / collapsible (for national and international transport) and the deployment/retrieval mechanism adaptable (e.g. manual and acoustic release). Fast and flexible access to video and re-powering is required to allow same or next day redeployment.
