Description

Birmingham City Council requires a supplier for the Application of Herbicides - Northfield.

This contract will be for a period of 1 year commencing 1st May 2018 until 31st March 2019.

Birmingham Parks and Nurseries invite tenders for the application of herbicides to shrub beds and other non-crop surfaces.

Applications will be required to the areas within the constituency of Northfield. Areas will be identified via digital maps made available to the successful service provider via PDA devices. These PDA devices will be loaned to the service provider by Birmingham Parks and Nurseries for the duration of the works. All application works will be recorded via this system, full training will be provided by Birmingham Parks & Nurseries.

The successful Service Provider shall provide the contract manager with a list of the materials he proposes to use, together with a copy of the assessment required under COSHH and the precautions proposed to be taken to ensure the safety of members of the public or persons other than the Service Provider's employees who may be affected by the use of such products.

The Service Provider engaged on pesticide application works shall produce on demand a current Certificate of competence issued by the relevant authority.

All persons using pesticides must take all reasonable precautions to protect the health of all human beings, creatures and plants, and to safeguard the environment

People applying pesticides must be fully trained and hold current certificates of competence and use the correct equipment.

All pesticides used must appear on the current MAFF approved list of chemicals and be approved for use by the Contract Manager. An approved list of chemicals can be obtained from the Contract Manager.

Specified treatments must not result in the areas treated looking untidy or ragged and, in cemeteries in particular, care must be taken to avoid chemicals damaging gravestones and markings. Treatments must be planned so as not to conflict with burials.
