Description

Arun District Council are inviting proposals from consultants to prepare an A27 Arundel Bypass Junction Cost/Benefit report.

Highways England announced its preferred route for the A27 Arundel Bypass in May this year. Details of the route can be viewed on Highways England's website: https://highwaysengland.co.uk/projects/a27-arundel-improvement/

Arun District Council supports the route option and the delivery of the A27 Arundel Bypass. However, the omission of a junction on the route at Ford/north of Tortington, seems to be a missed opportunity for improving north-south connections between the centre of the district and the Strategic Road Network. Highways England recently announced that it will carry out a further non-statutory consultation for the A27 Arundel Bypass Scheme. The consultation is planned for spring 2019 and will provide another opportunity for Arun District Council to put forward a case promoting a junction at Ford to be included in the bypass scheme.

Arun District Council is seeking proposals for consultants to prepare a report which will assess a range of junction options and, subject to the identification of a suitable option, prepare a report which will make the case for the inclusion of a junction on the proposed new A27 Arundel Bypass at Ford in Arun District. The final report will need to be prepared so that it can be submitted to Highways England as part of its second round of consultation due to take place in spring 2019.
