Description

Human use of the marine environment exerts a range of pressures on birdlife including noise and visual disturbance from a wide range of activities. Disturbance can lead to stress responses, flight, and changes in roosting or foraging behaviour for example. Such responses can directly or indirectly reduce the fitness of individuals and health of the population. The most observable outcome of disturbance is often a redistribution (displacement or attraction) of the species.
