Brief Description of Requirement
Although the location and industry is based upon the UKRI Head Office, please note that the actual works and delivery will take place at the following address:
Alvarez de Abreu,
70.38700
Santa Cruz de La Palma
Canary Islands
Spain
The William Herschel Telescope (WHT) is situated on the Spanish island of La Palma in the Canary Islands and is operated by the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes for professional astronomers from around the world. The telescope was commissioned in 1987 as a general-purpose astronomical facility and today continues to deliver world-class science. The ING would like to maintain the scientific competitiveness of the facility and has commissioned a new instrument and a series of upgrades to ensure that the telescope remains functional for at least another decade from 2020.
To that end, the ING is scoping the market to determine the feasibility of upgrading the dome shutter control system of the telescope. The current control system was also designed in 1987 and has worked reasonably well until recently when more technical failures have become apparent. The motor, cable drum, drive, brakes and clutch are all in good condition and the expectation is that these will not be replaced. Only the control system will be replaced.
Please ensure you review all attached information to ensure a full understanding of this requirement. All attachments can be found with the RFx attachments tab within the Emptoris System.
This contract will be awarded based on the evaluation criteria set out in the ITQ document.
