Description

Westminster City Council have a statutory responsibility to facilitate the funeral of deceased persons in their jurisdiction under certain conditions, as per the Public Health (Control of Diseases) Act 1984.

s46.1 states "It shall be the duty of a local authority to cause to be buried or cremated the body of any person who has died or been found dead in their area, in any case where it appears to the authority that no suitable arrangements for the disposal of the body have been or are being made otherwise than by the authority".

Public Health Funerals are the mechanism for discharging this duty, ensuring the safe and dignified disposal of the deceased, and recouping the costs where possible from the estate.

The contract is for a period of 3 years, with 1 year's optional extension period.
