•To maintain an efficient service, with clear criteria against which case officers within LPAs are able to identify the need for specialist archaeological advice on planning applications.
•To maintain and enhance the Historic Environment Record. Ensure accessibility to the ten LPAs, as well as other users, and encourage greater use of the information by case officers in LPAs when seeking specialist archaeological advice.
•To encourage developers to seek specialist archaeological advice and utilise the HER prior to submitting a planning application.
•To maximise the research and public benefit value of archaeological investigations
