Description
The existing highway along Upper Chorlton Road - between its junctions with Brooks Bar and Seymour Grove (Area 2). Incorporates a mix of residential communities located primarily away from the main carriageway. Parking is often afforded within the residential developments themselves, on street parking is available is designated bays along the route. The route is popular with commuters and students. This section is the missing link between the current cycling upgrades along Stretford Road introduced by Trafford council and the Regent Road Improvement work.
Currently a signed on-highway advisory cycling route exists through part of the length though not all, the advisory marked cycle lanes, which suffer from abuse by indiscriminate parking and encroachment by drivers. Links through traffic signal junctions are poor or non-existent for cyclists and pedestrians, which this scheme seeks to resolve with future schemes looking to improve the signal junctions along the route. With this proposal, the cycle lane is upgraded to one continuous length operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with "no waiting" restrictions outside the cycle lane and "no loading" between the hours of 7am-10am and 4pm-7pm to ensure the route is clear for general traffic outside these hours.
