Description

NHS Bedfordshire CCG (BCCG), is planning to run an Any Qualified Provider (AQP), procurement process starting in the next few weeks to secure more capacity for community-based anticoagulation services in a number of localities in Bedfordshire. There are already about 25 GP practices that monitor INR levels for their own patients on warfarin. However, BCCG have identified some communities where there is inadequate or no local coverage.
It should be noted that

• The existing contracts with GP practices, the Bedford Warfarin Service and at acute hospitals that cover the current anticoagulation service will remain in place.

• BCCG anticipate building capacity to the level of 1000 extra patient caseload.

• That any new provider would need to manage at least a caseload of greater than 40 patients. Localities have been identified where this is possible.

• That the service provided would be a level 4 and 'one-stop' service, i.e. that the provider must be able to sample, test, and adjust dosage of warfarin all at one visit, and communicate changes to the patient's GP.

• That access outside of 'office hours' and 'drop-in' appointments are an essential requirement.

• Services will be required in the following localities-

Bedford :- Bedford town (north of river) , Bedford town (south of river) , Clapham, Kempston .

Chiltern Vale:- Caddington, Dunstable, Toddington, Wheatfield.
Ivel Valley: Arlesley / Stotfold .

West Mid Bedfordshire :- Ampthill.

• The new APQ contracts are anticipated to run for 24 months with possible extension for a further 12 months (still subject to confirmation).

A full draft service specification for the AQP procurement is available along with further information and the RFI questions on the e tendering portal.
