Description

This advert is intended to notify potential suppliers of the tender for A4173/A46 Pitchcombe Junction Improvement.

The A4173 / A46 Pitchcombe junction has been under review for a number of years and has had various improvement measures implemented. However, the junction layout can be quite confusing to users and makes certain manoeuvres very difficult even for local residents. The topography and carriageway alignments restrict the available forward visibility and with high volumes of vehicles (12,500 over a 12 Hour period) the junction has been a concern to local resident's and commuters alike.

The proposed scheme will be to provide a simplified and recognisable junction layout, with a dedicated right-turn lane for traffic on the A46 wanting to access the A4173 safely. Visibility will be improved for users exiting the A4173 and Halfway Pitch junctions (from Pitchcombe village) by re-aligning and raising the A46, along with the construction of a new 2m high retaining wall. The design intends to reduce vehicle speeds by means of kerbed refuges and narrower running lanes. It will provide improved pedestrian access to the existing 2no. bus stops, including the provision of a new bus shelter. Other improvements include resurfacing of the site, providing improved street lighting and road signage.
