Description
Girls in Rwanda Learn (GIRL) is a 7-year Technical Assistance programme which is the successor to the UK's Learning for All (LFA) programme (2015-2023). GIRL will work to advance the UK's commitment for every girl to receive 12 years of quality education, squarely responding to the priorities on Women and Girls within the UK's International Development Strategy and the International Women and Girls Strategy. This programme will build upon the success of the predecessor programme and will continue focusing on foundational learning outcomes in English and Mathematics in primary education, with an even stronger focus on girls' education and inclusive education in Rwanda.
The purpose of the GIRL programme is to reduce school drop-out and improve transition to lower secondary or other learning pathways, particularly for girls and children with disabilities. This includes 1) improving foundational learning outcomes in English and maths and 2) ensuring the most marginalised girls and children with disabilities can access education, stay in school, and learn through targeted interventions. GIRL will generate learning and evidence for the Government of Rwanda (GoR) on how to achieve these outcomes affordably and at scale through a combination of demand-driven technical assistance and testing and delivery. The overarching impact that the programme will work to achieve is that children and adolescents, including the most disadvantaged, have the knowledge and skills to achieve their potential and contribute to Rwanda's economic development.
