Description
Health Education England (HEE - the Commissioner) are putting out this notice as a PIN (Prior Information Notice) with a view to completing a Direct Award.
Please note the contracting authority intends to direct award the contract to Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust and Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. The case for direct award can be found on the tender portal.
The Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (RCPCH) Progress and generic curriculum has a number of curricular capabilities that are best achieved using simulated learning. Within the West Midlands we have previously explored different ways of ensuring trainees are able to realise these, including supporting Trust based learning and supporting trainees to travel out of region to attend training courses.
Since 2014 simulation training has been successfully delivered within region by Royal Wolverhampton Hospital NHS Trust (RWLV), (paediatric simulation) and Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BWCH) (neonatal simulation). The decision to allocate simulation to these organisations followed a competitive interview process. Clinicians were asked to supply detailed plans of the courses they believed would best meet the needs of the trainees and the above two organisations were successful in their bids. TPDs for simulation have remained in post in these Trusts and have had their employment extended for a second term following successful appraisals.
These two organisations have the optimum equipment and infrastructure to be able to continue to run high quality simulation courses for all West Midlands paediatric trainees. These courses are accessed by trainees across the region and are not to the exclusion of other available simulation courses which trainees can access and claim costs for via the study leave budget if necessary.feature by video in the self-directed components.
The financial envelope for the contract is £142,000 split across the two providers.
