Description

2.1.1 The principal aim of this study is to investigate the water quality of three highway drainage outfall points on the A14 between Junction 19 (M1 / Swinford) and Junction 13 (A45 and A605 / Thrapston), and their impact on the quality of receiving watercourses.
2.1.2 To achieve the aim, the Contractor will undertake and complete the following study-specific objectives:

• To undertake targeted sampling surveys;
(1) Water sampling at the point of outlet to determine quality of highways runoff;
(2) Sediment sampling within concrete-lined ditches between outlet and outfall, where requested;
(3) Upstream and downstream water and sediment sampling within receiving watercourses.
• To examine water and sediments samples by analytical testing of suites representative of highways pollutants.

2.2 Project objectives: A43 Ponds Study
2.2.1 The principal aim of this study is to investigate the water quality of 13 balancing ponds on the A43 between Rothersthorpe (A5123 / M1 Junction 15a) and Fewcott / Stoke Lyne (M40 Junction 10), and impact on the quality of receiving waterbodies.
2.2.2 To achieve the aim, the Contractor will undertake and complete the following study-specific objectives:

• To undertake targeted sampling surveys;
(1) Water sampling within manholes to determine quality of highways runoff, where requested;
(2) Water and sediment sampling within Pollution Containment Tanks (PCT);
(3) Water and sediment sampling within the balancing pond system, at closest point to outlet from PCT and prior to outfall into receiving watercourse;
(4) Upstream and downstream water and sediment sampling within receiving waterbodies, where requested.

• To examine water and sediments samples by analytical testing of suites representative of highways pollutants.
2.2.3 Location plans for outfalls and ponds, including parking and accessibility, and proposed sampling points and number of samples required
