Description
In certain cases, when there is a sudden death other than by natural causes, it is the responsibility of the Coroner to examine the cause of death. This may result in a post mortem examination being carried out. It is also the Coroner's responsibility to remove bodies from the scene of death to the mortuary, pending investigation into the death.
This procurement is to renew a Framework Agreement for contractors to provide a service to transport deceased persons between the place of death to the Coroner's chosen destination. The majority of bodies are currently transported to the Pathology Directorate at Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. In some cases bodies may need to be transported to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital and on occasions taken to other locations including long distance transfers within the UK. The anticipated commencement date for the new framework is 1 April 2017.
The new Framework arrangement will comprise delivery of the above Services in 8 tender lots as set out below:
Lot 1: Council's Community Network Areas 1* and 2.
Lot 2: Council's Community Network Areas 3 and 4.
Lot 3: Council's Community Network Areas 5, 6 and 7.
Lot 4: Council's Community Network Areas 8, 11 and 12.
Lot 5: Council's Community Network Areas 9, 10 and 13.
Lot 6: Council's Community Network Areas 15, 18 and 19.
Lot 7: Council's Community Network Areas 14, 16 and 17.
Note: From within any of the above 7 Lots there may be a requirement to provide the Services to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth and Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, Exeter.
Lot 8: Services to other UK destinations.
* Lot 1 will include Services for collection of bodies arriving from the Isles of Scilly at Penzance harbour.
The Council will be appointing a sole contractor to provide Services for each of the 8 lots, noting that the same contractor may be appointed to multiple lots. Please click on the link below to view a map of the Community Network Areas.
