Description

In celebration of the chalk and the channel, we are working to secure Cross-Channel UNESCO Global Geopark status for the Kent Downs National Landscape together with our neighbouring protected landscape in France, the Parc Naturel Regional des Caps et Marais d'Opale.

UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development (https://en.unesco.org/global-geoparks).

All geoparks are areas of exceptional geological significance, but what makes them special is that they are community-led partnerships that promote an appreciation of natural and cultural heritage while supporting the sustainable economic development of the area, importantly through geological and eco-tourism.

As a part of the journey to UNESCO status, we are commissioning a number of "Geopark Corner" interpretive stands to act as mobile, mini exhibitions about the Geopark. These promotional displays will provide information, images, leaflets and products, that showcase the Global Geopark Network.

They will be displayed indoors at museums and visitor centres on both sides of the Channel.
