Description

Following the award of funding from the Heat Network Delivery Unit (HNDU) at DBEIS, Manchester City Council (MCC), the Corridor Partners and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) jointly commissioned a heat network techno-economic feasibility study for the Corridor area of Manchester City Centre. The study identified an exciting opportunity to establish a heat transmission network, trading heat between a number of heat suppliers and off-takers. This wider scheme was based upon initial delivery of several decentralised energy network 'clusters' which could then be connected to form a Corridor-wide scheme. These clusters included projects developed by: 1. Octagon Project 2. Bruntwood (Circle Square) 3. Manchester Metropolitan University 4. Manchester Science Partnerships Complimentary to various stakeholders' development plans, the Corridor-wide study has acted as a catalyst for bringing forward proposals for decentralised energy schemes within the Corridor, including further work to develop in detail the technical and commercial proposals for the above clusters. The subject of this opportunity is the Octagon Project cluster, and specifically the Octagon Project Energy Network (OPEN). OPEN is the regeneration development of the partially occupied Octagon House building (formerly the headquarters of United Utilities), situated at Hathersage Road. Manchester Energy Partnership Ltd is the owner and promoter of the OPEN project.
