Description

1753/329/MY/AMRC/17 Machine Tools x 3 Lots

The University of Sheffield wishes to invite tenders for 3x Machine tools on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Machining Group at Catcliffe, South Yorkshire.

Scope of Requirement

The University seeks to purchase 3x machine tools that will support the AMRC's research into gear cutting technologies for multifunctional machine tools, including power skiving, hobbing, shaping, broaching and milling. AMRC's focus is on demonstrating opportunities for improved quality and accuracy in manufacture using single part setup for multiple operations.

As the machines will be utilised for research projects rather than production, the usage will be subject to frequent change to suit different projects. The solution should therefore be readily and rapidly changeable to work on multiple applications.

The machine tools will allow manufacture of components in various materials, particularly including alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminium and nickel-based super alloys, as well as metal matrix composites and polymer composites. The equipment should allow for machining with high pressure coolant of various types, as well as dry cutting.
