Description
This project seeks to ensure the long term conservation and enhancement of the freshwater habitats and associated species of the River Ebble.
The outcomes sought for this project are threefold:
• a better understanding of the biodiversity of this wonderful chalk stream - one of only 200 in the world
• a trained volunteer force able to carry out surveys and undertake practical management tasks
• an increased awareness and understanding of the unique qualities of this river by landowners and communities along the valley, local schools and visitors
The contracted consultant will be expected to work closely with the CCCV LP/AONB staff and to act as enabler for this project. It also is important that the good working relationship that the AONB has built up with the landowners and communities in the Chalke Valley is maintained.
In addition to undertaking a number of baseline surveys of the River Ebble, the appointed consultant will provide the specialist advice, support and training for the duration of this project. Please note that the targeted training and support for volunteers is crucial to the success of this project and that in awarding this contract, the community engagement element is weighted slightly higher than the technical expertise to undertake the baseline surveys.
The main areas of activity that the consultant will be responsible for are outlined below. The CCCV LP/AONB staff will deliver other community engagement activities associated with this project.
