Description
The purpose of this Early Engagement Notice is to seek insight from the market regarding a potential requirement relating to the evaluation and assessment of existing and new Level 3 early years qualifications.
The Department would require a provider to assess early years qualifications and determine whether the qualifications meet the new Early Years Educator (EYE) level 3 criteria, to be published in Spring 2023, so that holders of these qualifications can be considered to be a Level 3 qualified member of staff within an early years setting. The new criteria will come into effect from September 2024.
In order to be counted as a qualified member of staff in an early years setting, individuals must hold a qualification that is approved by the Department. A qualification is approved after it has been assessed by mapping the content of the qualification against the Level 2 or Level 3 early years criteria, as appropriate.
We anticipate the provider will assess new and existing qualifications against the new EYE level 3 criteria. If an existing qualification meets the new criteria it will be considered approved from September 2024. All new qualifications will need to be approved and will be added to the list of approved qualifications if they meet the new criteria. Where a qualification is not assessed as meeting the new criteria, the provider would advise on how the qualification can work towards gaining approved status.
