Description
NHS Arden and Greater East Midlands CSU (AGCSU) on behalf of NHS England Specialised Commissioning invited suitably qualified and experienced providers to deliver Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Autotransplant for Chronic Pancreatitis (Adults) across 4 national centres (London, South, Midlands and East, North).
The aim of the national Total Pancreatectomy and Autotransplant network was to provide the highest quality of care to patients with severe chronic pancreatitis which has proved refractory to medical and endoscopic management or in whom previous surgery has proved ineffective.
The service scope will include: detailed assessment, surgery and long-term follow-up at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months and at yearly intervals thereafter.
The policy requires all commissioned providers to hold a licence for islet preparation from the Human Tissue Authority and have an 'on-site' islet isolation facility.
