Description

Background

Bioenergy combined with Carbon Capture & Storage (BECCS) has the potential to deliver negative greenhouse gas emissions, which will be key to enabling cost-effective decarbonisation. As such, Bioenergy is one of 10 priority areas within the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP) - a £1 billion fund to support innovation to develop the green technologies needed to tackle climate change.

Early Stakeholder Engagement Event

With the aim of shaping future NZIP programmes, a virtual Early Stakeholder Engagement Event will be held on 29th July 2021 to gather views on the Net Zero Innovation Needs for Biohydrogen with Carbon Capture and Storage (H2 BECCS). The event will focus on technologies with the potential to produce hydrogen from biogenic feedstocks while capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) generated in the process.

Hosted by BEIS, the event will be a combination of webinar and interactive workshop, with the aim of gathering stakeholder views on the priority innovation barriers that need to be addressed to achieve large scale deployment of H2 BECCS in the UK, in line with the Government's climate change objectives. BEIS is interested to hear from stakeholders from across the bioenergy landscape including bioenergy feedstock suppliers (waste and biomass), suppliers and operators of gasification, anaerobic digestion and other bioenergy conversion technologies, organisations involved in the research and development of novel biohydrogen technologies, energy suppliers, lenders and investors.

To attend the event, please register via Eventbrite at the following link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/net-zero-innovation-needs-for-biohydrogen-with-carbon-capture-and-storage-registration-161916744341

Expression of Interest

If you are unable to attend the event but would like BEIS to keep you updated about any future innovation competitions related to this theme, please send an email to bioenergy@beis.gov.uk with your name, email address, company and position, and include H2 BECCS in the email subject line. Please see the attached Privacy Notice for details of how we will use your personal data, and your rights.
